The Mole Antonelliana in Turin

Monument symbol of the city of Turin, thanks to its original and imposing shape, the Mole Antonelliana was born in 1862 as an Israelite temple.

Construction continued in 1878 with the addition of the lantern and the final truncated-conical elements. It was finished in 1889 by Costanzo Antonelli, son of Alessandro Antonelli who had started it and from whom it takes its name.

The Mole Antonelliana is 163.35 meters high and is the tallest building in the world with a masonry structure. On its spire stands a winged genius.

In 1953 a strong storm knocked down over forty meters of the spire which was replaced by the metal structure with stone cladding that we can admire today.

A panoramic lift allows you to reach the small temple under the spire from which you can admire a breathtaking panorama of the city of Turin.

The Mole Antonelliana currently houses the National Cinema Museum.
